Job Description
Position: Live Sound Engineer
Reports to: Head of Sound
Horizontal: Roundhouse/ Music
Direct Reports: None
Location: Roundhouse
Overview
Since 2019 Delta Live have been the sole audio supplier to the Camden Roundhouse, a venue famed for its live music pedigree and engaging corporate events. As such, the company maintains key infrastructure and equipment in the venue, operated and maintained by a dependable and professional audio team.
This role is a key part of the overall engineering delivery at the Roundhouse for music shows, corporate events and artistic programs across the year. This position will also allow for temporary deployment to other departments across the business to work on large scale public events, unique private events and musical performances, such as the BBC Proms.
Once established, the Live Sound Engineer will be capable of performing all system engineering and Front of House (FOH) engineer duties, with a good understanding of the permanently installed L-Acoustics PA system and ancillary equipment. The engineer must have the know-how and ability to make adjustments/ decisions as and when during the delivery of live productions, and meet the requirements of mixing Front-of-House and Monitors, or manage radio systems and stage patch when needed.
There will also be times when the engineer is the sole representative of Delta Live onsite, and will be the senior position in charge of a team of freelancers. In their execution of this role they will be representing both the Roundhouse and Delta Live, and be required to exhibit professionalism and expertise in their delivery.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Working under the Head of Sound, they will have a good understanding of the overall engineering requirements of each live production.
- Manage and provide onsite technical sound system expertise for the set up and delivery of live shows at the Roundhouse.
- To be the onsite ‘go to’ person, dealing effectively with all requirements from the live acts / act management and venue in whichever capacity.
- Work within a team of crew and where necessary have the ability to instruct all crew members onsite, ensuring that each member is aware of what is required of them via show briefings.
- Manage and be aware of all health and safety requirements while onsite and take an active and positive approach to all elements of health and safety.
- Loading, unloading and setup of equipment when required.
- Represent the company and the Roundhouse in a positive manner to incoming productions, clients and the venue; good appearance, courteous and helpful at all times.
- From time to time the candidate would be expected to work at Delta’s warehouse or onsite in the delivery of other projects.
- Advance riders sent from production ahead of event day and flag any queries.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in the technical delivery of music and corporate live shows.
- Experience mixing Front-of-House.
- Experience mixing Monitors.
- Excellent people skills; a good communicator, both written and oral.
- A good team player who is also able to work on own initiative.
- Ability to problem solve and work to tight deadlines.
- Highly self-motivated, with a flexible and “can do” attitude.
- Dexterity and agility; work will be physically demanding at times.
- Precise attention to detail.
- Diplomacy and sensitivity on site.
Desirable Qualities
- Knowledge of SMAART measurement software.
- Knowledge of L-Acoustics Network Manager and Soundvision.
- Good knowledge of DiGiCo mixing consoles and infrastructure.
- Good knowledge of audio systems; specifically, L-Acoustics (K2, KARA), including design rigging and tuning.
